A Love Episode by Emile Zola (1878)

A Love Episode is the 8th of 20 novels in Emile Zola's Rougon Macquart Cycle.  It focuses on a romance of a granddaughter of Adelaide Fouque, Helene Grandjean, née Helene Mouret, a widow with one daughter.  She is the sister of Silvere and Francois Mouret.   If were not reading through the full cycle I would have been pressing myself to finish this work.   My quick post read research indicates readers in the 1870s thought Zola was showing he could write a romance.
