"The Watchman" by Colette (1933)

When I think of Colette, as I do in odd moments, I do not usually conjure up memories of her stories based on being a mother.  "The Watchman" is an interesting story narrated over several days.  The children begin to report they hear odd noises in the attic, like someone walking around up there.  At first nothing can be found,  it is fun to observe the family interactions.  At the end they find a huge owl has turned the attic into his home.
